Random stuff and some linkage

Stuff I learnt today
- China’s online travel penetration rate is only 5%. cTrip.com has a 50% market share of China’s online travel market. China’s travel market is going to be massive, so stock up on those overnight adult travel nappies!
- Ports Design, one of China’s most famous luxury brands, uses the same Milanese material mill as Louis Vuitton. So the handbag quality is basically the same.
- Ports will be launching a BMW watch later this year. Ports, who have the distribution licence for BMW in China, were the first ever company in BMW’s history to be given such a licence. The BMW watch will go head-to-head with TAG Heuer.
- The watch business is one of the most profitable sectors of the luxury goods market. The watch movement of a TAG Heuer is made by the same people who make Swatch. A TAG Heuer watch costs around $150 to make. They then sell it for anywhere from $3-5k. Who said marketers weren’t evil?

- Contrarian investor predicts crash in China. “Dubai times 1,000 – or worse.” It should be taken seriously when it comes from someone with Chanos’ fearsome reputation. I don’t agree and will post about this when I get more time.
